Queensbury, NY – Dr. Hurwitz from Northern Nephrology and Hypertension (NNH) recently presented a highly engaging talk on Incremental Peritoneal Dialysis (IPD) at the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) Tri-State Chapter 120 regional meeting, held at the Queensbury Hotel. The presentation highlighted the evolution in managing End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD), emphasizing a holistic shift that prioritizes patient-centered care over strict biochemical targets. Dr. Hurwitz’s talk, titled "From Chemistry to Compassion: A New Era in ESKD Management," explored the importance of managing ESKD as part of a continuum. He addressed how the field has moved beyond the 2006 guidelines focused heavily on biochemical markers and clearance metrics to the 2020 International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) guidelines. These guidelines advocate a more comprehensive, patient-focused approach to managing kidney failure, integrating patients’ quality of life, preferences, and individual needs into treatment. Attendees at the ANNA meeting responded warmly, finding inspiration in Dr. Hurwitz’s discussion of this "Chemistry to Compassion" shift.
