Matthew Cook is CAQ Nephrology certified physician assistant. He completed his medical training at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Matt passed the national certifying examination to practice medicine in December of 2014 and gained his Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Nephrology in 2018. He began working with Dr Hurwitz at Northern Nephrology and Hypertension in February of 2015 and has been with the practice since. His focus is the evaluation and management of patients with all stages of chronic kidney disease, as well as providing continuous care to our patients that require renal replacement therapy (dialysis) and kidney transplantation. Matt also continues to assist Dr. Hurwitz with patients who are admitted to Champlain Valley Physician Hospital. This includes consulting on patients with acute kidney injury as well as managing the CVPH in-patient dialysis unit. Matt works closely with Dr. Hurwitz to provide high quality kidney care to patients in the North Country.
Matthew was born in Saranac Lake, NY. He continues to reside in the Adirondack Park. Early mornings and weekends include trail running, mountain biking, teleskiing and Nordic skiing with his wife Sara Cook, their 4 year old son Phoenix and two herding dogs Addie and Roscoe. Before going into medicine Matt was a member of the USA Nordic Combined National Ski Team (ski jumping and cross country skiing). Matt is looking forward to completing his 4th Iron Man competition this summer.
